The electronic music scene in Australia is booming at the moment, with the rise of festivals and an influx of talent - all with their own unique sound. One of the countries finest import is Tyson O’Brien - better known as the energetic DJ and producer Generik. From a Las Vegas residency to playing at the esteemed Lollapalooza festival to producing infectious, groovy future house tracks - he is making his mark on the scene. His latest release ‘Be There’ featuring A*M*E is set to be a huge hit and we got to catch up with Generik about what he’s got planned next.

COZY MAG: We love your new single ‘Be There’. How did your collab with A*M*E come about? What was it like to work with her?

GENERIK: I’m glad you like ‘Be There’, thank you! I’ve always loved her voice, ever since I heard her on ‘Need U 100%’ with Duke Dumont. I crossed my fingers, sent an email and bam - A*M*E loved the song and wanted to do it! Unfortunately we worked via email and not in person, but she’s so talented and I feel very lucky to have her a part of this record.

CM: Who is your dream collaboration?

G: Dua Lipa! I’m obsessed with her voice, it’s so unique and she is effortlessly cool. I’d love to work with her!

CM: You’re currently touring around Australia - which city has been your favourite so far?

G: I’ve only done three dates so far as the tour has just kicked off so I’ll have to say Brisbane. I played the show, had a ball; then we set up decks in the car park of the club at 4am and kept DJing till 7am. Seeing the sun rise was a great and terrible idea haha.

CM: Are you planning a trip to the UK soon?

G: I am! These things take time so hopefully in 2017 I’ll be in the UK & Europe and get to drink and dance with everyone!

CM: Have you been to the UK before? If so, what’s your best memory from your last visit?

G: I have indeed! The last time I was there I got to catch up and see Tiga at XOYO. I love that club and Tiga put on a DJing clinic as usual!

CM: What can we expect from you in 2017?

G: I’m going to be doing a tonne of remixes, working on more originals, clubby tracks, touring, partying and creating vibes  and bringing smiles!
