J Dilla’s legacy will forever live on and this Thursday night it’ll be celebrated by none other than Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def. Performing at London’s Indigo at The O2, the Brooklyn rapper will be performing tracks from the late producer’s back catalogue, paying homage to one of the most influential and trailblazing Hip-Hop artists of our time.

The two artists worked together frequently and were both part of the neo-soul, Hip-Hop collective the Soulquarians. Since Dilla’s death in 2006, Yasiin has ensured that his work will be remembered and no one else is more fitting to lead this concert.

J Dilla, sometimes known as Jay Dee and real name James Yancey, gained popularity in the mid-90s through his co-production on A Tribe Called Quest’s Beats, Rhymes & Life. Throughout his career he worked with the likes of D’Angelo, Madlib, MF DOOM, Erykah Badu and The Pharcyde, as well as releasing albums such as The Shining, Donuts and Welcome 2 Detroit. This Thursday, There’ll also be an exclusive screening of ‘The View from the Other Side, A European Renaissance’, directed by London’s Shernay LaTouche, shedding light on J Dilla from a European perspective.

Yasiin will also be supported by the likes of Little Simz, one of our favourite UK artists who has been making waves of late. With a MOBO nomination under her belt, her incredible Age 101 mini-EP releases and co-signs from Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000 and more, Simz couldn't be a better fit for an event like this. Essa and Mr Thing join her on the bill for what promises to be a night to remember.

Long live Dilla. Grab your tickets below.
